The game of chess resembles life, a game in which we are all pieces that we are moving in uncertainty, combining errors and successes, fighting for the difficult success until the end.

The game of chess resembles life, a game in which we are all pieces that we are moving in uncertainty, combining errors and successes, fighting for the difficult success until the end.

And that game, that of the game and that of our lives, tells a story that this book has wanted to tell in what was the golden age of our chess between 1954 and 1979, the so-called "boom" of grancanario chess.

But it is not a book of analysis of games to use. The author is more interested in the social life that surrounded chess, the political ups and downs in bars and chess clubs during the Franco regime and the transition. Emblematic personalities of the time such as Fernando Sagaseta, Pedro Lezcano, Germán Pirez, Juan Marrero Portuguese, wrote the history of Las Palmas at the same time that they met to play in the San Telmo park or in the Mercantile Circle.

The work of the Caja Insular de Ahorros would take chess from schools to national and international successes, but Sagaseta or Pirez sometimes had to play in prison.

It was a time of tourism and real estate development, of a lot of money. But in this shared dream, while some built buildings, others composed poems.
