This new work by the great teacher and renowned trainer Jacob Aagaard is, in short, a training method whose objective is to improve combinatorial vision, thinking and calculation ability.

In an earlier book, Mastery of Calculus, the Danish author introduces theoretical concepts with which the reader should become familiar, such as assumptions, unforced, desperate thoughts, domination, reversal of plays, taking a new look, visualization, Steps, when is the time to calculate ... Although it is an independent work, having read it is of great help. In this new book in the series "Preparation of great masters" Aagaard proposes eight calculation techniques that he considers fundamental and that He also tackled (except one) in Master in Calculus.

The eight techniques are: candidate plays, combinatorial vision, prophylaxis, comparison, elimination, intermediate plays, imagination and ... cheating!

Agaard reviews these techniques in eight chapters. In each one there is a small introduction with examples (like the ones we will see in the exercises) in which the author puts the focus of attention on the technique that he intends for the reader to train. After that introduction, the series of exercises follows.

The Spanish edition coincides with a revised and expanded edition in English (February 2020), improving some errors in analysis, with new exercises and an additional chapter.

As Gelfand mentions in the foreword, we have before us a calculus exercise book with some level of difficulty. But let's not forget that the improvement in your game is achieved with exercises that force you to give the maximum. The exercises (more than 400) acquire increasing difficulty in each chapter.

In his foreword, Agaard concludes with good advice: "If you do your job, you will see significant improvement: guaranteed!"
