In this book, Judit Polgár traces her chess life from her first games to 1991, when she broke Bobby Fischer's record and became the youngest female grandmaster of all time. This work, told with anecdotes, photos, and in-depth analysis of her own games, is an essential chess manual for its precision, pedagogical tone, and combative attitude. It recounts the challenges she faced not only in chess but also in her personal life: as a teenager, she managed to enter a world dominated by men, generally older than her; an elite that refused to accept her because she was a woman. She overcame that resistance on the board and managed to demonstrate, throughout her career, her chess strength in a forceful manner.
This review of Judit Polgár's career is divided into three installments: How I Beat Bobby Fischer's Record is the first (covering the years 1984 to 1991), followed by From Grandmaster to Top Ten (from 1991 to 2000), and A Game of Queens (from 2001 to 2009). Each installment stands alone, representing very different stages of her career.
